Can countersinks machine face chamfers? What are the requirements? Face chamfering is the most common chamfer type; ordinary countersinks or spot facers both work. Face chamfer requirements: 1) Even chamfer size - consistent across the batch: use depth stops or piloted tools; 2) Smooth surface - no tool marks, chatter or burrs: sharp tools and sensible parameters; 3) Accurate angle - per the drawing (45 degrees most common; a 90-degree countersink cuts a 45-degree chamfer); 4) No edge chipping - moderate feed, sharp tools; 5) Symmetry - circular face chamfers must be even, no one-sided variation. Face chamfers are usually cut last, after all other machining, so later operations cannot damage them. Thin-sheet face chamfering: watch deformation - small feed.
