How to control countersink depth? Consistent batch results?
Depth control is the key to flush screw heads; a depth stop (also called depth limiter or depth collar) is recommended. The stop fits over the countersink and limits plunge depth, keeping every cut consistent within +/-0.1mm. How to use: 1. Calculate the required countersink depth from the screw spec and sheet thickness; 2. Set the stop to that depth; 3. Machine the first piece and test-fit the screw; 4. Once confirmed, run the batch; 5. Spot-check periodically. Other methods: 1. CNC programming (machining center or CNC mill) - highest precision (+/-0.02mm); 2. Drill press depth scale - moderate (+/-0.3mm); 3. Manual control by feel - worst consistency, not recommended. Notes: 1. Always inspect the first piece and test-fit the screw - the head should sit flush or 0.1mm below the surface; 2. Spot-check every 10-20 pieces; 3. Worn tools have smaller actual diameter, so depth shallows - replace tools promptly; 4. Make sure the depth stop is locked to prevent depth drift. Lihao Technology offers matching depth stops - adjustable, fixed and bearing types.
