How to install and set up a countersink? What to watch?
Installation and setup: 1) Clamp firmly - the shank must seat deep enough in the chuck (at least 2x shank diameter), tighten the nut so the tool cannot loosen or fly out; 2) Short overhang - keep the shank as short as possible to reduce vibration and runout, typically no more than 3x shank diameter; 3) Check runout - use a dial indicator after clamping; runout should be under 0.02mm; excessive runout causes tool marks and fast wear; 4) Approach slowly - switch to feed speed near the workpiece to avoid crashes; 5) Test cut first - cut one piece on scrap to check chamfer size and surface quality before running the batch; 6) Sensible speed and feed - set per material and tool size, then adjust after the first piece; 7) Safety - wear safety glasses, never touch a rotating tool, remove chips with a hook or brush, not your hands.
