What countersinks for automotive countersunk holes? Special requirements?
For automotive countersunk holes, cobalt HSS (HSS-E) countersinks or spot drills are recommended: 1) Diverse materials - carbon steel, alloy steel, stainless and aluminum are all used; cobalt HSS adapts well; 2) High volume, high demands - automotive needs long life and consistency; cobalt HSS lasts 2-3x longer than standard HSS; 3) 120 degrees is common - many automotive countersink standards are 120 degrees (some 90), choose per the part; 4) Piloted tools recommended - piloted spot drills prevent slipping and keep depth consistent in batches; 5) Coating recommended - TiAlN resists heat and wear for high-speed, high-volume automotive work; 6) Special requirements - stability and consistency matter; buy from proper manufacturers, not inferior tools, to avoid batch scrap. Typical applications: body sheet metal countersunk holes, chassis part chamfers, engine part deburring, interior part machining.
