Noise and heavy vibration when countersinking - causes and fixes?

Common causes and fixes: 1) Speed too high - beyond the tool/machine range, causing resonance; try lower speed; 2) Feed too high - excessive cutting force causes vibration; reduce feed; 3) Excessive overhang - poor rigidity; shorten the overhang; 4) Loose clamping - tool or workpiece wobbles; check and tighten; 5) Dull tool - higher cutting force vibrates; regrind or replace; 6) Weak machine - old or small machines vibrate with large tools; lower speed and feed or use a more rigid machine; 7) Thin or unstable workpiece - thin-wall and cantilever parts vibrate; add support or reduce cut; 8) Damaged edge - chipped tools cut unevenly and make noise; inspect the edges and regrind or replace. Work through these and most noise/vibration problems resolve.
