Which countersinks for medical device machining? What special requirements?

For medical devices we recommend cobalt HSS (HSS-E) or carbide countersinks: 1) Special materials - medical devices commonly use stainless steel (304, 316L), titanium (TC4), cobalt-chromium alloys, PEEK - biocompatible but hard to machine; 2) Extremely high standards - parts contact the human body; no burrs, cracks or tool marks; surface finish Ra0.4 or better; 3) Consistency - mass production must be 100% qualified with zero defects; 4) Traceability - raw materials must be traceable; tools should carry material certificates. Special requirements: 1) Material - stainless steel: cobalt HSS; titanium: carbide or coated cobalt HSS; 2) Burr-free - very sharp edges, final light pass, hand polishing if needed; 3) Surface quality - low speed, small feed, generous cutting fluid; 4) Contamination control - clean parts thoroughly after machining, no cutting fluid residue; 5) Material certificates - every batch certified per medical standards; 6) Special tools - complex medical parts may need custom countersinks. The medical industry demands the highest quality - choose premium tools, never inferior products.
