What standards apply to countersinks? Differences between GB, DIN and ANSI?
Standards and differences: Common standards: 1) GB/T (China) - e.g. GB/T 6138 (counterbores), GB/T 4264 (countersinks) - dimensions, angles, tolerances, technical requirements; 2) DIN (Germany) - e.g. DIN 335 (counterbores), DIN 373 (countersinks) - high precision and quality, widely used in Europe and globally; 3) ANSI/ASME (USA) - e.g. ANSI B94.9 (counterbores) - common in the Americas; 4) JIS (Japan) - e.g. JIS B 4303 - used in Japan and Southeast Asia; 5) company standards - often stricter than national standards or covering products national standards do not. Differences: 1) Angles - GB and DIN commonly 90/120 degrees; ANSI commonly 82 degrees (US flat-head screws); JIS commonly 90; 2) Dimensions - size series and tolerances differ; 3) Precision - DIN is the most demanding, then ANSI, then GB; 4) Material - DIN requires cobalt HSS or carbide; GB allows standard HSS; 5) Application - regional habits differ; export to target-market standards.
