Can countersinks chamfer deep holes? What tools for deep-hole chamfering? Deep holes (depth over 5x diameter): mouth chamfering needs only an ordinary countersink - the chamfer is at the mouth, no need to reach in. But deep INTERNAL chamfers (stepped holes, countersinks at depth) need dedicated tools. Methods: 1) Long-shank countersinks - extended shanks, thin, reach into deep holes: for not-too-deep stepped holes; 2) Adjustable chamfer tools - adjustable depth, replaceable blades: for various depths; 3) Dedicated counterbore tools - piloted long-shank counterbore cutters: accurate location for deep counterboring; 4) Back chamfer tools - enter from the other end to chamfer the inner mouth: special design; 5) Boring machine chamfering - deep internal chamfers by boring: high precision but low efficiency. Notes: deep-hole chamfer bars need good rigidity - short overhang to prevent vibration; clear chip evacuation to prevent packing; generous cooling.
