Piloted countersinks (also called locating-pin spot drills) offer: 1) No slipping - the pilot locates in the pilot hole, so the tool cannot drift - especially valuable on slopes and curved surfaces; 2) Consistent depth - the pilot bottoms in the pilot hole, giving the same plunge every time for consistent batch countersink depth; 3) Easy alignment - no repeated setting; insert the pilot and it is located; 4) Higher efficiency - no setup time, faster batch production. When needed: 1) Batch countersunk holes requiring consistent depth; 2) Sloped, curved or uneven surfaces; 3) Wherever regular countersinks slip; 4) Inexperienced operators. The pilot diameter should match the pilot hole, typically 0.1-0.2mm smaller.
