Spot drill and countersink - the same thing? Difference?
They are essentially the same type of tool under different names. In workshops, veteran machinists call them spot drills, counter drills or point drills; technical books call them spot facers; sales calls them countersinks or chamfer tools. All of them chamfer hole edges, machine countersunk holes and deburr. The subtle difference: spot drill emphasizes cutting the conical seat (countersunk hole); countersink emphasizes edge chamfering and deburring. In practice they are interchangeable - just specify the angle and size when ordering.
